Implementation Plan of Arsenic mitigation for Water Supply (IPAM-WS)

Implementation Plan of Arsenic mitigation for Water Supply (IPAM-WS))

Approval Date: July 2018

In quest of comprehensive and consistent development towards achieving the goal of providing safe water and sanitation for all, the Sector Development Plan (SDP FY 2011-FY2025) for the Water Supply and Sanitation (Wsa) Sector in Bangladesh is in place for providing guidance. Among others, it has precisely identified Arsenic Mitigation as an important Thematic Front. The arsenic menace in the country became apparent much earlier than the formulation and formal appearance of SDP. Before that, significant development took place from a policy perspective. The National Policy for Arsenic Mitigation (NPAM) and Implementation Plan for Arsenic Mitigation (IPAM) were formulated and approved by the Government in 2004. There will be four IPAMS for four distinct sectors, which are Water Supply, Health, Agriculture, and Water Resources, in short, IPAM-WS: IPAM-H; IPAM-Ag: and IPAM-WR. The document 'IPAM-WS' is intended to portray the pathway of arsenic mitigation in water supply.
